An easy place to visit. Mountain oasis so near Frederick. Beautiful views, relaxing.
Easy trails. Not many people on the trails (holiday weekend). The views are probably the best when the leaves fall.
This park would probably get more use if more of the sites had electric hookups or water hookups.
Lots of trees. Great place for locals to hike. Nothing to travel across the country for.
3 stars as there is a road cutting through the summit. Takes away from the reason why one would hike. Highway noise carries to the summit. Also, smokers everywhere...ugh!
We enjoyed our weekend here. It is a very typical MD state park campground. There are a few electric sites, no water hookup sites. Not a huge problem, just fill the fresh tank when you arrive and set up camp. The firewood was affordable and there was plenty of small sticks in the woods near the campsite to use for kindling. The playground consisted of a swingset, but our boys were fine just playing in the grass next to our site.
In the summer you will be hearing a lot of noise from the lake on your hikes. I loved this park when I was a kid.
We noticed you need a real mountain bike, if you're going to bike a trail, as the rocks are often loose with sharp edges.
