Free roaming iguana, dozens of other animals to visit with, an astronomical observatory, and a planetarium? This place makes learning fun! Operated by the Frederick County Public Schools system, the ESSL makes several scientific disciplines accessible to students and their families. If you happen to be there on a clear night during an event or planetarium show, you might even have a chance to take a look through the observatory's telescope.
Very educational and very geared for people with children! Great education center.
Fun and entertaining the kids loved being able to touch the animals and learn about them and the stars
Incredible, fun facility! We attended their Summerfest, which was a great time! Our group was myself, a 6 year old, and a 3 year old. We all enjoyed ourselves, and there is material accessible for different ages. I can easily see how a kid could visit over the years, and keep discovering and learning more as their knowledge and ability to understand matures. There is a telescope, planetarium with cool shows, many exhibits about different branches of science, and many live animals. Very hands on with friendly, enthusiastic staff, ESSL is a wonderful place to learn, get kids excited about science, and have fun!
Great place. Love the planetarium. Always something new going on. Definitely one if the best places for field trips.
